The State Bar of Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Journal ("Journal") is published biannually by the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and is delivered at no additional cost to all Section members. Published since the inception of the Section in 1990, the Journal has been edited by Sylvester Jaime since 1995.

The first issue of the Journal was Vol. 1, No. 1, published in December 1989. Ronald Kaiser, who taught at Texas A&M University, was the first Journal editor. Mr. Kaiser was the Journal editor for 11 issues, from Volume 1 No.1, December 1989 to Volume 4 No. 2, Winter 1995. Beginning with Volume 5 No.1, Winter 1995, Sylvester Jaime has edited the last 33 issues of the Journal, with the latest issue being Volume 18 No.1, Spring 2009.

At its inception the Journal was published once per year and has been published as often as 3 times per year, until Volume 12-3, Fall 2003, when due to budget constraints, publication was reduced to 2 times per year. The current publication schedule is geared to the Section's annual Entertainment Law Institute and the Section's Annual Meeting.

Our philosophy for the Journal content has been to include articles of interest and articles with law review quality content. However, the Journal has not tended to be exclusively a law review type publication, so as to appeal to a broad base of readers and permit flexibility in what the members can find in the Journal. The Journal is neither strictly a sports law nor an entertainment law publication, but includes articles ranging from negotiating sports contracts to ticket scalping. Thus the Journal has tried to provide a range of articles that touch on the widest of content from both the sports and entertainment law arenas.

Authors have ranged from student writers to law school professors to attorney practitioners. In fact, the Section has had an ongoing relationship with South Texas College of Law, which through the current stewardship of Professor Andrew T. Solomon, has provided the Recent Case of Interest and the Bibliography sections for the Journal since 1995.

In regards to article submission and publication guidelines, all submissions are considered, but not all submissions are selected. To fulfill the Journal's mission of providing current practical and scholarly literature to Texas lawyers practicing sports or entertainment law, the Journal general guidelines are, as to length, no more than twenty-five typewritten, double-spaced pages, including any endnotes, as to endnotes, they must be concise, placed at the end of the article, and in Harvard “Blue Book” or Texas Law Review “Green Book” form, and as to form, typewritten, double-spaced on 8 ½” x 11” paper. One may submit an article in triplicate with a disk indicating its format, or via e-mail in .pdf format.  Anyone considering submission may call (281.597.9495) or e-mail Sylvester R. Jaime, Editor, Texas Entertainment & Sports Law Journal, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In considering submissions, authors are advised that once an article is submitted, the Journal does not request any additional authorization from the author to publish the article. Due to the number of submission and the number of potential publications in the marketplace, it is nearly impossible to monitor publication of submission in other publications. It is up to the author to assure that we are notified should there be any restrictions on our use of the article. This policy has been implemented to assure that our Journal does not violate any other publication's limitation on republication. The Journal does not restrict republication, and in fact encourages, submission of an author's article to other publications prior to or after our election to publish. Obviously the Journal will make the appropriate attribution where an article is published with permission of another publication, and request such attribution to the Journal if we are the first to publish an article.

The Journal's current editorial board consists of Professor Andrew T. Solomon, Faculty Advisor; Steven Ellinger and Craig C. Crafton, Proofing Editors; and, your Editor Sylvester R. Jaime.
