TESLAW CHAIR’S ANNUAL REPORT 2010

E-mail Print PDF

TESLAW, the State Bar of Texas Entertainment & Sports Law Section has had a big year thanks to its very active members and Council.  Each year, TESLAW Council members give their time and effort to provide valuable resources and assistance for the legal practices of entertainment and sports attorneys all over the state.  TESLAW members have a plethora of section-provided resources and opportunities at their fingertips to promote their practices and maintain their knowledge on the latest and greatest entertainment and sports issues. I have been pleased to have had the opportunity to work with this wonderful and generous group of people and to serve as the Section Chair for 2009-2010.

This year the outstanding Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Journal, published in conjunction with the South Texas College of Law, went electronic.  The Journal is published twice per year and includes numerous articles with insights for entertainment and sports law practitioners.  Archived Journal issues and other resources are available through the TESLAW website, www.TESLAW.org.  TESLAW membership also entitles members to use the TESLAW listserve ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), which is a convenient (and free) way to network and get helpful practice hints from other Section members.  TESLAW Council Legislative Committee members also actively follow and report on proposed legislation at the state and federal levels that may affect the entertainment and sports law practice areas.  In the upcoming year we hope to boost TESLAW’s website, journal and social networking activities even further.

TESLAW members also received free CLE programs in connection with the Section’s annual meeting.  Our most recent annual meeting CLE presentation included detailed discussions of copyright issues, the latest in publishing developments, and the day to day business of an Major League Baseball in-house attorney

This year the Section also held another successful Entertainment Law Institute, the premier Entertainment CLE event in the state, and our 20th  Entertainment Law Institute is in the works for October 7-8 at the Radisson Hotel in Austin.  The Entertainment Law Institute features nationally known experts speaking in multiple tracks on topics including copyrights and film, music, sports, and digital media.  And October is always a great time to be in Austin, Texas!

We appreciate everyone’s involvement this year, and I offer my best wishes for a very successful upcoming 2010-2011 term as we work to make Texas lawyers the attorneys of choice for Texas artists and athletes wherever their careers may take them.
